10 Mindful Minutes by Goldie Hawn

I have just finished reading the book, "10 Mindful Minutes: Giving Our Children--and Ourselves--the Social and Emotional Skills to Reduce St ress and Anxiety for Healthier, Happy Lives " by Goldie Hawn and Wendy Holden. I don't usually pick up celebrity books, but I have heard very good things about this book, so I decided to give it a try.

Let me tell you that this book did not disappoint me. First, this book gives all kind of background information regarding how the brain works. It is very well-written with arguments that are properly supported with scientific data.

The book is based on the MindUP programme, supported by the Hawn FoundationIt outlines short, practical exercises for parents and children that take 10 minutes or less. The objectives of these exercises are to help young children and teenagers reduce stress and anxiety, improve concentration and academic performance, effectively manage emotions and behaviour, develop greater empathy for others and the world, and be more optimistic and happy.

The book is not only an excellent tool for parents, but also for educators who want some simple practical advice that will really make a difference in the classroom. The MindUp programme has been implemented in classrooms from many schools in North America and other parts of the world. This book includes many examples of teacher, parents and kids that are using the MindUp programme.

I should say that the exercises presented in this book are also useful for adults interested in carrying mindfulness in their daily lives. For instance, an exercise that is often mentioned in the book is the "traffic signal game". The idea behind it is to use the changing lights to bring mindfulness in your life. Red means stop and sit quietly. Yellow means to think about things to do or actions that can help you. Green means to pick one of these things or actions to try.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book and really recommend it for anyone who wants to teach mindfulness to kids.
